How to turn a file into a link

Create a file URL in three steps with the same secure upload flow used by Quick Share Cloud Transfer.

1

Choose your file

Select or drag in a document, image, video, or another supported file. Sign in with your Google account when prompted.

2

Set your link options

Confirm the expiration period. Premium accounts can choose a longer period and add an access code.

3

Upload and copy the URL

Wait for the upload to finish, then copy the share link. Send the access code separately if you enabled one.

Make a shareable URL for documents, photos, videos, and more

File to Link stores your upload in Quick Share cloud storage and creates a URL for the recipient. You can share a PDF, photo, video, presentation, or another supported file without attaching it to every message. Recipients can download from a browser without installing Quick Share.

Your links and storage allowance are shared with Cloud Transfer. A free account can keep up to 3 active files, with a maximum of 1 GB per file and a 3-day expiration. Premium increases the limit to 20 active files and 5 GB per file, with expiration options up to 30 days. Archives, executable files, and scripts require Premium.

You can see active files, copy their links, and delete them from this page or Cloud Transfer. Deleting a file or letting it expire makes its link unavailable.

File to Link FAQ

How do I turn a file into a link?

Choose a file, sign in, set the available link options, and upload it. Copy the URL shown when the upload finishes.

Is File to Link free?

Yes. A free account can keep up to 3 active files, each up to 1 GB, with links that expire after 3 days. Premium offers larger files, more active links, and longer expiration options.

Do I need an account to upload a file?

Yes. Sign in with a Google account to upload and manage files. Recipients can open an unprotected share link without signing in.

What file types can I share?

Documents, images, videos, and many other common file types are supported. Archive, executable, and script uploads require a Premium account.

Can I protect a file link with a code?

Premium accounts can require a four-character access code. Share the code with the recipient separately so they can download the file.

How long does a file link work?

Free links last 3 days. Premium accounts can choose 3, 7, 14, or 30 days. A link stops working when its file expires or is deleted.

Are File to Link and Cloud Transfer separate storage?

No. They use the same Quick Share account, active-file limit, storage, and file list.
